Should I Partition My 3TB Hard Drive and How?

I just got a new 3 TB Toshiba Canvio HDD. I already formatted it correctly The question is whether I should partition it afterward. Other than helping with organization, are there benefits to partitioning the drive? If so, any suggestions on how to partition it?

To fully use the disk space on your new HDD, I recommend you correctly format the drive as GPT. Then you can move on to the disk partition part. In fact, partitioning the hard drive is optional and depends entirely on the users' needs and understanding of organizing storage devices.

Part 1. The merits of partitioning disk

In addition to improved data security and the ability to work with multiple file systems, partition disk has other advantages. I will discuss some of them in the following:

  • Partitioning can do better disk organization. It allows you to store different types of files (such as OS, games, and videos) in separate partitions and access them easily.
  • Putting data in different partitions enables you to back up the data more simply instead of picking files and folders from the whole disk.
  • Disk Partition makes it possible to install multiple Operating Systems on one hard drive.

Part 2. Disk partition advice

Based on my experience, you'd better create 4 partitions for the Operating System, games, videos, and personal files. You can create a larger size partition for the system, such as 120GB. Moreover, don't store your personal data or files on the system partition in case of increasing the infection possibility by viruses or malware.

Part 3. A reliable way to partition disk

Now, you must be fully aware of the pros of partitioning a hard drive. I will offer a practical way to help you partition your HDD successfully. EaseUS Partition Master is a professional partition tool with a great reputation. It allows you to create new disk partitions properly and smoothly with New Disk Guide feature.
