Cannot Create Partition over 2TB, What Should I Do

I have an HP ProLiant DL180 G6 running Windows Server 2008 R2. I want to repurpose it and use it as a backup server for a non-critical server, but it only has one 2TB partition and 3.5TB of unallocated space. When I try to create a new partition on the unallocated space, I get the error code 0x80042468 twice, which says I need to partition the drive to use GUID Partition Table (GPT). Can anyone assist with this issue?

You can create partitions larger than 2TB in Windows Server operating systems. However, MBR has limitations, so before creating partitions larger than 2TB, you first need to convert MBR to GPT format. That's why you keep getting error codes. Therefore, I will offer you the most convenient MBR to GPT conversion tool based on my experience, EaseUS Partition Master Server.

This tool can help convert MBR to GPT with three steps:

Step 1: Install EaseUS Partition Master on your HP computer and run it. Then navigate to the "Disk Converter" section.

Step 2: Choose "Convert MBR to GPT" and press "Next" to continue.

Step 3: Choose the MBR disk, then click "Convert" to begin the process.

Then, you are able to create a new partition on the GPT unallocated space. EaseUS Partition Master, an all-in-one utility, allows you to create/move/resize/delete partitions, so you don't have to use another program to continue to create a new partition. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Launch EaseUS Partition Master and click "Disk Manager."

Step 2: Right-click on unallocated space on the GPT disk and choose "Create."

Step 3: Follow the wizard and set the volume label, cluster size, and file system.

This is the whole process. Hope it can help you.
